THE AMERICAN script

After a hit goes wrong in Sweden, assassin Jack relocates to a quiet Italian village, seeking a final assignment from his handler, Larry, before retiring. Jack is tasked with building a custom sniper rifle for a mysterious client, Mathilde, while simultaneously forming a romantic relationship with local sex worker Clara and a friendship with Father Benedetto. As Jack completes the rifle, he grows increasingly wary of Mathilde and Larry, suspecting a setup, and discovers a hidden gun in Clara's apartment, further fueling his paranoia. During the exchange of the rifle, Jack realizes Mathilde intends to use it to kill him, but her attempt fails due to a jammed weapon. In the ensuing chaos, Jack kills Larry, who was also part of the plot, and escapes, leaving his life as an assassin behind to pursue a future with Clara.
