Secret Service agents James West and Artemus Gordon investigate the disappearance of scientists and a murder, uncovering Dr. Arliss Loveless's plot to divide the United States with advanced weaponry. Despite their clashing personalities, they infiltrate Loveless's mansion, where West is captured, and Gordon rescues Rita Escobar, a woman searching for her kidnapped scientist husband. Loveless attacks a rebel camp and steals their advanced train, but West and Gordon escape his traps, tracking him to Spider Canyon where he unveils a colossal mechanical tarantula.
