1990
Sailor Ripley and Lula Pace Fortune, deeply in love, flee across the country to escape Lula's manipulative mother, Marietta, who hires private investigator Johnnie Farragut and criminal Marcello Santos to find them. Marietta's attempts to separate the couple escalate, including hiring hitmen Reggie San Pedro Sula and Drop Shadow, while Lula recalls her mother's involvement in her father's death. In Big Tuna, Texas, Sailor and Lula encounter the menacing Bobby Peru and his associate Perdita Durango, and Lula discovers she is pregnant. Sailor reluctantly agrees to participate in a robbery with Bobby, which goes awry when Bobby kills an old man and is subsequently killed himself, leading to Sailor's arrest and imprisonment. After five years, Sailor is released and reunites with Lula and their son, Pace, but he initially decides to leave them before a vision of the Good Witch convinces him to return, and the family is finally reunited.
