FBI Agent Chester Desmond investigates the murder of Teresa Banks in Deer Meadow, encountering resistance from local law enforcement and experiencing strange phenomena before he mysteriously disappears. Agent Dale Cooper takes over the investigation, finding Desmond's car and a cryptic message, then experiences a bizarre encounter with a missing FBI agent, Phillip Jeffries, who reappears and vanishes after recounting a meeting of malevolent entities. One year later, in Twin Peaks, high school student Laura Palmer struggles with a double life, using drugs and engaging in promiscuous behavior to cope with the trauma of being sexually abused by an entity named Bob, who she realizes is possessing her father, Leland. Laura confides in her best friend Donna and her secret boyfriend James, but her attempts to escape Bob's influence are futile, leading to a violent confrontation in a train car where Leland, possessed by Bob, brutally murders Laura. Laura's body is found the next morning, and in the afterlife, she is comforted by Agent Cooper in the Red Room, finally finding peace.
