1993
Clarence Worley, a lonely comic book store employee, falls in love with Alabama, a call girl, after a chance meeting at a movie theater. After a whirlwind romance, Clarence marries Alabama and, in an attempt to free her from her pimp, Drexl Spivey, he confronts and kills Drexl, inadvertently stealing a suitcase full of cocaine. Clarence and Alabama flee to Los Angeles, planning to sell the drugs with the help of Clarence's friend, Dick Ritchie, an aspiring actor, but they are pursued by Vincenzo Coccotti, a mob consigliere who is seeking revenge for Drexl's death and the stolen drugs. Coccotti's hitman, Virgil, tracks Alabama to a hotel and brutally beats her, but Alabama manages to kill Virgil in self-defense, while Clarence's father, Cliff, is interrogated and murdered by Coccotti's men for information.
