Abby Richter, a control-freak TV producer, is forced to work with cynical personality Mike Alexander to save her show, leading him to coach her on attracting her neighbor, Colin. Their professional relationship deepens amidst Abby's awkward dates with Colin, culminating in a near-kiss between Abby and Mike during a trip to Los Angeles, after which Abby breaks up with Colin. Upon returning to Sacramento, Abby's frustration with a new host leads her to rant on air, prompting Mike to rush to the festival where they accidentally become trapped in a hot air balloon.
