THE LAST SAMURAI script analysis
Captain Nathan Algren, haunted by his Civil War past, is hired to train the modernizing Japanese Imperial Army. After being captured by samurai leader Katsumoto, Algren learns bushido, finds purpose, and forms a bond with Katsumoto and his family. When political machinations lead to conflict, Algren returns to help rescue Katsumoto and fights alongside him in a climactic battle. In the end, Algren survives to honor the samurai way to the Emperor.
