THE GREAT GATSBY script

Aspiring writer Nick Carraway moves to West Egg, Long Island, becoming neighbors with the enigmatic millionaire Jay Gatsby, who throws extravagant parties to attract his lost love, Daisy Buchanan. Nick facilitates a reunion between Gatsby and Daisy, rekindling their romance despite her marriage to Tom Buchanan, whose affair with Myrtle Wilson adds to the complex web of relationships. During a heated confrontation, Tom exposes Gatsby's illicit fortune, and Daisy, driving Gatsby's car, accidentally kills Myrtle, with Gatsby taking the blame to protect her. Myrtle's grieving husband, George Wilson, murders Gatsby before taking his own life, leaving Nick to arrange a sparsely attended funeral and reflect on Gatsby's unyielding hope and the elusive American dream.

Dialogue examples

Daisy comes over sometimes in the afternoons and I wanted some people who wouldn't gossip... until we decided what we're going to do... You see these two towns are pretty close together. And it gets in the papers... You understand? They're some people Wolfsheim wanted to do something for.

Jay Gatsby / Scene 77

Listen Nick, you like to watch; I remember that from college. And that's OK, I make no judgment; but we've got a whole summer - do you want to sit on the sideline and watch, or do you want to play ball?

Tom Buchanan / Scene 19

It's so hot... Everything's so confused. What'll we do with ourselves this afternoon...? And the day after that... and for the next thirty years? Let's all go to town! Who wants to go to town?

Daisy Buchanan / Scene 78

There had been music from my neighbor's all summer. In his blue gardens, men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the laughter and the stars...

Nick Carraway / Scene 73

Well I don't care; he gives large parties - and I like large parties, they're so intimate; at small parties there isn't any privacy.

Jordan Baker / Scene 25

When these hot headed types appear, I rely on you... But you were not available.. A scene was made... What's going on with you Jay?

Meyer Wolfsheim / Scene 69

You'll have to excuse him... In his old age, he's prone to "digress..." He's a regular around here; a real denizen of Broadway...

Jay Gatsby / Scene 33

I went to her house first with some of the other officers from Camp Taylor... I'd never been in such a beautiful house before...

Jay Gatsby / Scene 72
