THE GETAWAY script

Professional bank robber Doc McCoy is paroled through his wife Carol's deal with corrupt businessman J. Beynon, who then forces Doc to rob a bank with a treacherous crew. After Doc wounds double-crossing Rudy during the heist, Carol kills Beynon for his betrayal, but their money is stolen, leading them to pursue the thief on a train. Rudy, recovering, forces a veterinarian and his wife to help him track Doc and Carol, while Beynon's enforcers also converge on the couple at a hotel, resulting in a violent shootout where Doc kills Rudy. Doc and Carol escape the hotel, hijack a truck, and are driven across the Mexican border to safety by a Westerner named Slim Canfield.
