Aspiring journalist Andrea Sachs becomes the junior assistant to the tyrannical Miranda Priestly at Runway magazine, initially struggling but eventually excelling in the high-fashion world at the expense of her personal life. After replacing her colleague Emily for Paris Fashion Week, Andy uncovers a plot to replace Miranda, which Miranda masterfully thwarts by sacrificing her loyal art director, Nigel. Disgusted by Miranda's ruthlessness and her own complicity, Andy abandons her job, throws her phone into a fountain, and returns to New York. Andy reconciles with her boyfriend, secures a new job with Miranda's surprising recommendation, and later shares a silent, acknowledging glance with Miranda on the street.

Tonight's the benefit. I've been looking forward to it for MONTHS. I refuse to be sick. I'm wearing Valentino. Everyone's going to be leaving to get dressed soon, so after you drop off Miranda's Fendi bag at the re-beaders, you can just go home.
