Einar Wegener's life with his wife Gerda takes a profound turn when posing in women's clothing awakens his true identity as Lili, a woman, leading to a complex exploration of self and a move to Paris. Lili's desire for full transition intensifies amidst societal misunderstanding and medical misdiagnoses, prompting her to undergo pioneering, risky gender-affirming surgeries with Gerda's unwavering support. After a successful initial surgery, Lili embraces life as a woman, but decides on a final, more extensive procedure to complete her transition. Tragically, complications from this last surgery lead to Lili's death, and Gerda honors her memory by releasing her scarf into the wind in Jutland.
