In Cheesebridge, human boy Eggs, raised by the feared Boxtrolls, uncovers the villainous Archibald Snatcher's plot to exterminate them for a prestigious White Hat. Eggs ventures to the surface, encountering Winnie Portley-Rind, who helps him expose Snatcher's enslavement of Boxtrolls and his biological father, Herbert Trubshaw. Snatcher unleashes a mecha-drill to capture the remaining Boxtrolls, but Eggs and Herbert devise a plan to interrupt his White Hat coronation and reveal his deception to the town. Enraged, Snatcher attacks in his mecha-box but explodes after consuming too much cheese, leading to the townspeople embracing the Boxtrolls and Eggs' family reunion.
