Jason Bourne, still suffering from amnesia, lives in hiding with Marie in Goa, India, but their peace is shattered when a Russian assassin named Kirill attempts to kill Bourne, accidentally killing Marie instead. Believing Bourne is responsible for a recent CIA operation in Berlin that resulted in the theft of classified files and the death of two agents, Deputy Director Pamela Landy launches an investigation, forcing Bourne to emerge from hiding to clear his name and seek revenge for Marie's death. Bourne tracks Landy to Berlin and, after a tense confrontation, learns that the CIA believes he was involved in the Berlin operation and that the files stolen were related to Treadstone, his former black ops program. Through a series of flashbacks and investigations, Bourne uncovers that Ward Abbott, a high-ranking CIA official, was involved in a conspiracy to steal the files and frame Bourne, as well as the original assassination of Russian politician Vladimir Neski, which Bourne himself carried out under Treadstone.
