The Artist script

George Valentin, a charismatic silent film star, enjoys immense popularity with his loyal dog, Jack, until the advent of talking pictures threatens his career. Despite the studio's transition to talkies, George stubbornly attempts to produce another silent film, which flops as rising star Peppy Miller, whom George once helped, achieves widespread success in sound films. George's wife leaves him, and he loses his fortune in the stock market crash, leading to a downward spiral of alcoholism and despair. After George accidentally sets his house on fire in a drunken stupor, Peppy rescues him and convinces studio head Zimmer to cast them in a new musical, allowing George to embrace sound and revive his career alongside Peppy.
