In 2003, death row inmate Marcus Wright is executed after donating his body to Project Angel, only to awaken in 2018, a post-Judgment Day world, as a human-machine hybrid with no memory of his transformation. Marcus encounters a young Kyle Reese and a mute girl named Star, and together they navigate the desolate landscape, evading Skynet machines and cannibals, until Kyle and Star are captured by a Harvester. Marcus, injured, is rescued by Resistance pilot Blair Williams, and they seek refuge at a Resistance outpost where Marcus's mechanical nature is discovered, leading to his imprisonment and an interrogation by John Connor, who suspects him of being a Skynet infiltrator. Blair helps Marcus escape, and he makes his way to a Skynet facility, discovering that he is a prototype hybrid created by Skynet to infiltrate the Resistance, and that Kyle Reese is being held there as bait for John Connor.
