In a post-apocalyptic 2029, Skynet sends an advanced T-1000 Terminator, made of mimetic polyalloy, back to 1995 to kill a ten-year-old John Connor, the future leader of the human resistance. The resistance sends a reprogrammed T-800 Terminator to protect John, who is living with foster parents while his mother, Sarah Connor, is institutionalized for her warnings about Judgment Day. The T-800 and John rescue Sarah from Pescadero State Hospital, narrowly escaping the T-1000, and Sarah initially distrusts the T-800 until she sees its capacity for learning and protection. The trio gathers weapons from an old contact and then targets Miles Dyson, the Cyberdyne Systems scientist whose work will lead to Skynet, intending to destroy his research and the original Terminator parts that inspired it.
