New York City constable Ichabod Crane is sent to the superstitious village of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of decapitation murders attributed by locals to the Headless Horseman. Ichabod, a man of science, uncovers a conspiracy among prominent families and discovers the Horseman is controlled by a living person who possesses his skull. Aided by Katrina Van Tassel and young Masbath, Ichabod unmasks Lady Van Tassel as the orchestrator, who used the Horseman to eliminate rivals for the family fortune. Ichabod retrieves the Horseman's skull, severing Lady Van Tassel's control, and the now-complete Horseman drags her to hell before Ichabod, Katrina, and Masbath leave for New York City.
