Tony Montana, a Cuban refugee, arrives in Miami and quickly rises through the criminal underworld with his friend Manny Ribera, taking on dangerous drug deals for local kingpin Frank Lopez. Tony's ambition and ruthlessness lead him to betray Lopez, take over his empire, and marry his girlfriend, Elvira Hancock, while also developing a possessive obsession with his sister, Gina. As Tony's cocaine empire expands, his paranoia and drug use escalate, straining his relationships and leading to a failed assassination attempt on a politician at the behest of Bolivian drug lord Alejandro Sosa. Tony's refusal to complete the hit results in Sosa turning against him, and in a drug-fueled rage, Tony mistakenly kills Manny after finding him with Gina, leading to Gina's death in the ensuing chaos. In a final, violent confrontation, Tony defends his mansion against Sosa's assassins, dying in a hail of bullets, leaving behind a legacy of power, excess, and destruction.
