Rudy Duncan, an ex-convict, is released from prison after his cellmate, Nick Mason, is killed in a riot, leaving Rudy to assume Nick's identity to meet Nick's pen pal, Ashley Mercer. Ashley, who is actually Nick's sister, and her brother Gabriel, along with their crew, force Rudy to help them rob a casino that Nick had planned to hit. Rudy, still posing as Nick, is coerced into planning the heist, but he discovers that Ashley and Gabriel intend to kill him after the robbery. During the chaotic casino heist, Rudy's true identity is revealed, leading to a confrontation with Gabriel and his crew. Rudy ultimately outsmarts the gang, leading to their demise, and escapes with the casino's money, finally returning home to his family for a quiet dinner.

He worked at that casino. He's the one who wrote her letters. Me, I'm a damn mechanic, my last job was a Quickie Lube, I did five for lifting cars. I don't know shit about blackjack, I don't know shit about Indians. I'm not him.
All the guys I've ever been with... they never want to know me. Who I am on the inside. They just want to qet inside. When they do, they think that means they know who I am. That I trust them. That they know me. That there's nothing left to learn. A guy like you, Nick -- six months before you can even touch my face. I figure a guy in that kind of bind, he's gonna hafta work to get to know me some other way.
