1967
Astronaut George Taylor crash-lands on a future Earth ruled by intelligent apes who enslave primitive humans, leading to his capture and study by chimpanzee scientists. After revealing his intelligence, Taylor escapes with the help of the scientists and a human woman, fleeing into the Forbidden Zone where they uncover archaeological evidence of a prior advanced human civilization. Confronted by the ape leader Doctor Zaius, Taylor forces him to admit that ape society was built upon the ruins of a human one, a truth Zaius desperately tries to suppress. Taylor and Nova then ride along the beach, where he discovers the partially buried Statue of Liberty, realizing he has been on a post-apocalyptic Earth all along.
