IMF agent Ethan Hunt is tasked with recovering a deadly genetically engineered virus called Chimera and its antidote, Bellerophon, from rogue former IMF agent Sean Ambrose, who stole them from scientist Vladimir Nekhorvich. Ethan recruits professional thief Nyah Nordoff-Hall, Ambrose's ex-girlfriend, to infiltrate Ambrose's inner circle and gather intelligence on his plans. Nyah successfully infiltrates Ambrose's compound and discovers that he intends to release the Chimera virus to create a global pandemic, then profit from selling the antidote, Bellerophon, through Biocyte Pharmaceuticals CEO John C. McCloy. Ethan and his team infiltrate Biocyte to destroy the remaining Chimera virus, but Nyah injects herself with the last sample to prevent Ambrose from obtaining it, giving Ethan 20 hours to find the antidote before she succumbs to the virus.
