Teddy eventually reveals that Leonard already killed his wife's attacker a year ago and has been living in a self-created loop of vengeance, using Sammy's story as his own. In a final act of defiance, Leonard frames Teddy as his next target, ensuring his cycle of revenge continues, culminating in Teddy's death and Leonard's perpetual search for purpose.
