1963
Fernand Naudin, a former gangster, inherits a criminal empire and the protection of Patricia, his dying friend's daughter, leading him to assert authority over resentful associates and manage illicit businesses. Fernand survives a shootout, thwarts a rival gangster's ambush, and repeatedly attempts to separate Patricia from her pretentious fiancé, Antoine, whom he dislikes. During a chaotic party, Fernand clears the mansion of guests, only to discover the next morning that Patricia has eloped with Antoine. Fernand tracks them down and, accepting Patricia's love for Antoine, joins them for breakfast, effectively passing on his protective duties.
