1969
The Marquise, Georges, and Diane operate their struggling chateau as a hotel, resorting to sabotage to attract guests like Jean-Jacques and Cookie, and later, a group of Swedish tourists and the Passereau family. Bank robber César Anselme de Maricorne and his accomplices arrive, posing as diplomats, and César charms Diane while the family plots to trap him for his stolen money, believed to be in a briefcase in the chateau's safe. Their elaborate schemes to capture César and retrieve the money fail, and after Charlie opens the safe, César uses his decoy briefcase to signal a plane that crashes into the pond. César confesses his past to Jeanne, they fall in love, and three months later, the chateau thrives with César as the head chef, fully integrated into the family and business.
