Cynical divorce attorney Miles Massey becomes infatuated with the cunning socialite Marylin Rexroth, who specializes in marrying and divorcing wealthy men, and proposes to her after she tricks her second husband into voiding their prenup. Following their marriage, Miles discovers Marylin, aided by her attorney and ex-husband, orchestrated a scheme to marry him for his wealth, prompting him to hire a hitman to eliminate her. Before the hit, Marylin inherits a vast estate from her deceased first husband, and Miles frantically tries to cancel the hit, only to learn Marylin hired the same hitman to kill him, resulting in the hitman's accidental death during their confrontation. Ultimately, Miles and Marylin, having both attempted to murder the other, decide to remain together, embracing their shared manipulative nature and starting a family.
