Recently paroled cat burglar Hudson Hawk is coerced by the Mario brothers and the eccentric billionaire Mayflowers into stealing three Da Vinci artifacts to reassemble a machine that transmutes lead into gold. Hawk, with the help of his best friend Alex, steals the first piece, an equestrian model, but is then captured by the CIA and taken to Rome, where he meets Vatican agent Anna Baragli. Under duress, Hawk steals the Da Vinci Codex from the Vatican, but Anna, who is secretly a nun, drugs him and takes him to the Mayflowers' castle, where the final piece, a crystal, is located. Hawk, Anna, and Alex infiltrate the castle, battle the Mayflowers, the Mario brothers, and the CIA, and ultimately destroy the gold machine, escaping the exploding castle on a glider.
