Hiccup, a misfit Viking teen, secretly befriends a Night Fury dragon he names Toothless, discovering dragons are not the monsters his village believes. Their bond helps Hiccup excel in dragon training, but his attempts to show the villagers dragons can be tamed backfire, leading his father to use Toothless to find the dragon nest. Hiccup and his friends fly their trained dragons to the nest, saving the Vikings from the monstrous Red Death, which Hiccup and Toothless ultimately defeat.
