Rachel Ellenstein's antique store is broken into, a broadsword is stolen, and she later dies in an explosion at the store. In 1565, Connor MacLeod and his wife Heather witness the devastation of the plague in the Scottish Highlands. Meanwhile, Duncan MacLeod is impaled, rescued, and interrogated by a Watcher named Matthew, who warns him about a renegade Immortal threat. Duncan's past is explored through flashbacks, showing him marrying Kate, making love to Faith in the present, and ultimately killing Kate to make her an Immortal.
