Wrongly imprisoned for a bank robbery committed by an acquaintance, toll booth operator Henry Torne plans a real heist with his mentor, Max, after his release and the discovery that his wife has moved on. To access the First Buffalo Bank's old tunnel system, Henry auditions for and secures the lead role in the adjacent Orpheum Theatre's production of The Cherry Orchard, falling for his co-star, Julie. On opening night, Henry, Max, and their crew execute the heist through the theatre's tunnels, subduing Eddie Vibes when he attempts to betray them. Henry returns to the stage to confront Julie, who rejects his offer to run away, and the group escapes with the money, leaving Eddie to be interrogated by the police.
