1999
FBI Agent Clarice Starling is reprimanded for a botched sting operation, leading to a new assignment investigating Hannibal Lechter's whereabouts, which brings her into conflict with Justice Department official Krendler. Meanwhile, Italian police official Carlo Pazzi, seeking a reward, discovers Lechter living under an alias in Florence and attempts to capture him, but Lechter outsmarts and kills Pazzi. Wealthy victim Mason Verger, disfigured by Lechter years ago, also seeks revenge and uses his resources to track Lechter, eventually capturing him. Starling, following Lechter's trail, arrives at Verger's estate and rescues Lechter from being fed to Verger's man-eating pigs, during which Verger is killed.
