After a chaotic battle, the Guardians crash-land on a planet where Peter Quill's biological father, Ego, a living planet, reveals himself, while Rocket, Groot, and Nebula are captured by mutinous Ravagers. Yondu, Rocket, and Groot escape and head to Ego's planet, where Gamora and Nebula discover Ego's sinister plan to convert all planets into extensions of himself, requiring Quill's Celestial power. The Guardians, Yondu, and Nebula unite to destroy Ego's core in a climactic battle, during which Yondu sacrifices himself to save Quill from the exploding planet. The Guardians mourn Yondu, Quill accepts his chosen family, and Nebula departs to find Thanos.
