1982
Rand Peltzer gifts his son, Billy, a Mogwai, which multiplies into eight new creatures after being splashed with water, then transforms into cocoons. These cocoons hatch into monstrous Gremlins that kill Billy's mother and multiply into hundreds more after one is doused in a swimming pool, leading them to wreak havoc on the town. Billy, Tracy Allen, and Gary Lucia take refuge in an antique store before deciding to blow up the movie theater where the Gremlins are gathered. After the theater explodes, Billy and Tracy escape with one Gremlin as bait, and the rising sun kills the remaining creatures, seemingly resolving the crisis when the last Gremlin is thrown into a lake.
