After banker Sam Wheat is murdered, his ghost discovers his friend Carl orchestrated it due to money laundering and struggles to warn his girlfriend Molly. Sam enlists the help of psychic Oda Mae Brown, who can hear him, to expose Carl's illegal activities and protect Molly from further harm. Through Oda Mae, Sam convinces Molly of his presence, helps close the fraudulent bank account, and intervenes when Carl and Willie pursue Oda Mae, leading to Willie's death. In a final confrontation, Sam protects Molly and Oda Mae, causing Carl's death, and then ascends to the afterlife, leaving Molly and Oda Mae to remember him.
