Four Feathers script

British officer Harry Feversham resigns his commission before a war in Sudan, prompting his friends and fiancée, Ethne, to brand him a coward with white feathers. Disguised as an Arab, Harry travels to Sudan to redeem himself by aiding his former comrades, including his blinded friend John Durrance, to whom Ethne becomes engaged out of pity. Harry infiltrates a prison in Omdurman with the help of a Nubian scout, Abou Fatma, to rescue Lieutenant Trench, enduring torture before they fake their deaths and escape. Returning to England, Harry reunites with Ethne after Durrance, learning of Harry's bravery from Trench, releases her from their engagement, allowing Harry and Ethne to marry.

Dialogue examples

I don't mean it that way... You see, if there was something I could do, something so undeniable...I'm not saying it would change anything, it's too late for that...but if the feathers can be given, then they can be taken back.

Harry Feversham / Scene 9

...Wolsey's going to split the force. A River Column's going to continue down the Nile, whilst a Desert Column joins up with regiment at Abou Clea, and makes a dash for Khartoum.

Lieutenant Willoughby / Scene 14

...There's only one thing that frightens me now. The thought that the closer I come, the more desperately afraid and sure I am that all this will end right here...

Lieutenant Trench / Scene 35

That's enough Harry. Get on a grip on yourself. You're no use to anyone, sitting here all day, driving yourself mad...

Colonel Sutch / Scene 9

Ethne...I've asked her to marry me...You probably gathered that from the letter.

John Durrance / Scene 16

He risked his life to save our regiment. He fought as if he'd been born to it.

Lieutenant Willoughby / Scene 23

...You're a civilian. Even if you find them, there's nothing you can do.

Colonel Sutch / Scene 9

It does to me, Sir. It's all I think about. What makes a man a coward?

Harry Feversham / Scene 9
