E.T. - THE EXTRA-TERRESTIAL script

A small, childlike alien is accidentally left behind on Earth when its spacecraft is startled by approaching government agents and flees without it. Ten-year-old Elliott discovers the alien, names him E.T., and secretly befriends him, teaching him about human culture while E.T. demonstrates telekinetic powers and a glowing red heart. As E.T. falls ill from Earth's environment, a psychic connection forms between him and Elliott, causing Elliott to experience E.T.'s symptoms and emotions. Government agents, led by Keys, eventually discover E.T.'s presence and quarantine Elliott's house, subjecting E.T. and Elliott to medical examinations.
