Naive insurance agent Tim Lippe is sent to a convention in Cedar Rapids to save his company after his mentor's scandalous death, where he rooms with an eclectic group and discovers his fiancée's infidelity. Embracing the convention's wild side, Tim navigates a corrupt award system controlled by Orin Helgesson, who attempts to bribe him, leading Tim to a drug-fueled rampage after learning his company has already been sold. Rescued by his new friends, Tim kidnaps Orin and abandons him at a hog farm, resulting in Tim's arrest and subsequent bail by Dean. Millie breaks off their engagement, but Tim, now confident and worldly, embraces his new path, starring in a commercial with Dean and Ronald, having saved Northlands and found true friendship.
