CANDLE TO WATER script

Vaughn, troubled by his infidelity, leaves his wife Mia and daughter Pip to be with his mistress Brooke, but their relationship quickly deteriorates due to Brooke's past trauma and Vaughn's inability to connect. Meanwhile, Mo, a security guard, abuses his power by locking up and brutally beating Cy, a director, in a storage depot, while Dolores, an admin, discovers the assault on surveillance. In another storyline, Jaden, a street-savvy young man, struggles with a life of crime and the responsibility of caring for his younger brother Austen and ailing father, leading to Jaden's eventual suicide after his girlfriend Lycia is attacked. Concurrently, Uri, an interrogator for a shadowy government agency, investigates the death of Nicholas, torturing Nicholas's widow Elle with psychological manipulation. The film concludes with Shona, a woman who, after being pursued and attacked in her home by an intruder named Caleb, defends herself by slashing him and is subsequently arrested.

If you recall, Shona was sentenced to seven years in Wormwood Scrubs for the murder of Caleb Rounds – the man who broke into her house, shot and held her hostage for several hours on the night of March the twelfth last year. Chris – so . . . in your opinion Shona's Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, a condition she suffered following action. . . an incident with an IED in Helmand Province in Afghanistan in May two thousand and ten, (more) (cont'd) an incident that killed a close colleague of hers and resulted in Shona being pensioned, invalided out of the army. In your opinion Chris, this - the PTSD - should have been crucial to the decision not to prosecute Shona for murder, a charge you now feel should have been reduced to what: manslaughter? She didn't seem like much of an invalid in the way she dealt with Rounds did she? So for you - was this a travesty of justice? Really?
