1992
Buffy, a popular high school cheerleader, discovers she is the Slayer, a chosen warrior destined to fight vampires, and is reluctantly trained by her Watcher, Merrick. Buffy struggles to balance her normal life with her new responsibilities, alienating her friends and boyfriend while honing her skills. The ancient vampire king Lothos and his minion Amilyn begin to terrorize the town, turning Buffy's friend Benny into a vampire and attacking her classmates. After Merrick sacrifices himself to protect Buffy from Lothos, Buffy embraces her destiny and prepares for a final confrontation. At the senior dance, Buffy and her ally Pike battle Lothos and his vampire army, ultimately defeating them and saving their classmates.
