1983
World-famous neurosurgeon, physicist, and rock star Buckaroo Banzai successfully tests his Oscillation Overthruster, a device that allows him to pass through solid matter, but his experiment inadvertently releases the evil alien Lord Whorfin, who has been trapped in the eighth dimension. Whorfin, disguised as the insane scientist Dr. Emilio Lizardo, escapes from a mental institution and, with his Red Lectroid aliens, plans to steal the Overthruster to return to his home dimension and conquer Earth. Buckaroo, aided by his rock band and scientific team, the Hong Kong Cavaliers, and a mysterious woman named Penny Priddy who resembles his late wife, must stop Whorfin from initiating an interdimensional war. The Cavaliers infiltrate Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems, Whorfin's front company, to rescue Penny and retrieve the Overthruster. In a climactic battle, Buckaroo and his ally John Parker pilot a Thermopod to destroy Whorfin's spaceship, saving Earth from alien invasion and allowing Buckaroo to revive Penny with a kiss.
