BRAVEHEART script

William Wallace, a Scottish commoner, returns to his village after years abroad, only to secretly marry his childhood love, Marion, and witness her brutal murder by English soldiers under King Edward I's oppressive rule. Enraged, Wallace leads a rebellion, rallying commoners and achieving a decisive victory against the English at Stirling Bridge, earning him knighthood and the title of High Protector of Scotland. Despite further victories, Wallace faces betrayal from Scottish nobles, including Robert the Bruce, leading to a devastating defeat at Falkirk and the death of his father figure, Campbell. After years as an outlaw, Wallace is eventually captured through a trap set by the nobles and Robert the Bruce, then transported to London for trial. Refusing to beg for mercy during his public execution, Wallace inspires the Scottish people, and years later, Robert the Bruce, now king, leads the Scots to a final, victorious battle against the English at Bannockburn, fulfilling Wallace's dream of Scottish freedom.

Dialogue examples

Nobles? What does that mean -- to be noble? Your title gives you claim to the throne of our country. But men don't follow titles, they follow courage! Your arm speaks louder than your tongue. Our people know you. Noble and common, they respect you. If you would lead them toward freedom, they would follow you. And so would I.

William Wallace / Scene 28

You see? Death comes to us all. And it comes to William Wallace. But before death comes to you, know this: your blood dies with you. A child who is not of your line grows in my belly. Your son will not sit long on the throne. I swear it.

Princess Isabella / Scene 52

You will embrace this rebellion. Support it, from our lands in the north. I will gain English favor by condemning it and ordering it opposed from our lands in the south.

Robert the Bruce / Scene 19

Simply because he eluded your trap, do you think he is more than a man? My father is dying. Perhaps you should think of our coronation.

Prince Edward / Scene 48

I go to France to press our rights there! I leave you to handle this little rebellion, do you understand? DO YOU?!

King Edward I / Scene 18

Sir, I... come to beg you to confess all, and swear allegiance to the king, that he might show you mercy.

Princess Isabella / Scene 51

Historians from England will say I am a liar. But history is written by those who have hung heroes.

William Wallace / Scene 2

He is not to be harmed. I have your king's absolute promise that he will be imprisoned only!

Robert the Bruce / Scene 45
