BLITZ script

During the London Blitz, Rita Hanway evacuates her ten-year-old son George to the countryside, but George, bullied on the train, jumps off and attempts to return home. George falls in with a gang of looters led by the volatile Albert, who forces him to participate in dangerous robberies of bombed-out buildings. Meanwhile, Rita, distraught by George's disappearance, quits her factory job and, with the help of her neighbor Jack, begins a desperate search for her son through the war-torn city. George witnesses the gang's brutality, including their desecration of bodies in a bombed café, and eventually escapes their clutches, finding temporary shelter in an underground station. After a night with Jack, Rita returns home to find her house destroyed and her father dead, but she discovers George alive in the rubble, and they are joyfully reunited before leaving London together on a train.

After they took him away...the next day I went to the police station. They told me they had released him without charge. A few days later, one of his ship-mates gave me a letter from him. I never heard from Marcus again.
