Toxic waste contaminates a pond, causing local spiders to mutate into giant, aggressive creatures that begin attacking the town of Prosperity, Arizona. Sheriff Samantha Palmer, her son Mike, and former miner Chris McCormick discover the cause of the mutation as the townspeople gather at the mall to fortify against the escalating invasion. As the spiders breach the mall, the survivors retreat into the mines below, where Chris plans to use explosives to destroy the spider colony. Chris sacrifices himself to detonate the explosives, saving the town, and is later revealed to have survived, allowing Prosperity to rebuild.
