AMERICAN PSYCHO script

Patrick Bateman, a wealthy investment banker, meticulously maintains a superficial life while secretly indulging his violent, psychopathic tendencies, escalating from fantasies to the brutal murder of his colleague Paul Owen. Detective Donald Kimball investigates Owen's disappearance as Bateman continues his spree, nearly killing his secretary and murdering two escorts, before confessing his crimes in a frantic phone call to his lawyer. His lawyer dismisses the confession, claiming to have recently dined with Paul Owen, and Bateman finds Owen's apartment empty and for sale, with no one remembering Owen ever living there. Bateman's reality blurs as his confessions are not believed and his crimes have no consequences, leaving him trapped in an unpunished existence without catharsis.
