AMELIA script

Amelia Earhart, a determined and adventurous aviator, is recruited by publisher George Putnam to be the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, a feat that catapults her to global fame despite her initial reluctance to take credit. Their professional relationship evolves into a marriage, but Amelia's independent spirit and desire for greater challenges lead her to pursue a solo transatlantic flight, which she successfully completes after overcoming severe mechanical issues. As Amelia's fame grows, she becomes an advocate for women's rights and aviation, developing a close bond with Gene Vidal and securing funding for a perilous round-the-world flight. Despite a crash during an initial takeoff attempt in Honolulu and growing marital strain with George, Amelia embarks on the ambitious circumnavigation with navigator Fred Noonan. The journey is fraught with challenges, including storms and navigation difficulties, culminating in a final, desperate attempt to reach Howland Island where communication is lost and Amelia and Fred disappear over the Pacific Ocean.

Dialogue examples

I've loved one person unconditionally, Bill. He is the most caring and generous and charming and flat-out funny guy I'll ever know. He's my father. He's a drunk. And he's let me down all my life. Now you get out of that bed. And you fly that god-damned thing to Ireland. Or I swear to you, Bill... I swear to you I will. Or die trying.

Amelia Earhart / Scene 20

`Why I Believe Women Pilots Can't Fly The Atlantic. An outspoken warning by Lady Heath.' `...pure suicide for any woman today...it is madness for them to attempt it and...at least the first dozen will be drowned.' And we're reading this, because...?

George Palmer Putnam / Scene 39

Rusty, we can carry enough fuel to go to China. That thing they're flying can't load enough gas to make Yonkers. Tell that to Putnam's girlie. And while you're at it... Tell her I do wear silver. So I'm two up on her.

Mabel Boll / Scene 17

RADIO'S STILL OUT. NO WAY TO COMPUTE WINDSPEED AND DRIFT IN THE FOG, SO GOD ONLY KNOWS WHERE IRELAND IS. NINETEEN HOURS PLUS. WE'VE GOT MAYBE AN HOUR OF PETROL LEFT. PROBABLY LESS.

Bill Stultz / Scene 23

Well, someone should. Because they're all saying you took recklessly dangerous solo flights for no earthly purpose except publicity. Meaning, money.

Gene Vidal / Scene 73

Well, someone should. Because they're all saying you took recklessly dangerous solo flights for no earthly purpose except publicity. Meaning, money.

Gene Vidal / Scene 73

I don't have a choice. I have to reverse my route and fly east. If I go west now, I'm risking hurricanes in the Caribbean and monsoons in Africa...

Amelia Earhart / Scene 79

Sure. There are so few books I haven't published, it was easy to find. Beatrix Potter, the Tailor of Gloucester. He's a cat in a green frock coat.

George Palmer Putnam / Scene 15
