John explores a dark escape pod, discovering a broken hypersleep tube with bloodstains and a child's doll, then finds a functional tube containing Ripley, whose recorded message reveals the fate of the Sulaco and a Xenomorph infestation. As Kyle and other monks arrive, warning John against the forbidden technology, John ignores them and activates Ripley's tube.

She learns from the Abbot that Earth no longer exists and her companion, Newt, was not found, leading her to realize an Alien might have come with her, but the Abbot dismisses her warnings and has her room bolted. Later, John, the medic, is disturbed by a hysterical monk seeking help for a sick sheep.
